A Little Goes A Long Way

I don’t know about you, but I tend to be “all or nothing” with most things in life. I have a hard time with the “slow and steady” approach! For example, if I decide I want to train for a triathalon, I make a training plan and get upset if I can’t or don’t follow it. Then I tend to have this “well I may as well give up” attitude. Not exactly healthy, right?! As you can imagine, this doesn’t always work well when you have a job, a household to manage, and kids to raise. Things are always left undone and I don’t always have time to do things when I want to. But I’ve learned over the years that a little goes a long way! A little bit is better than nothing.

Today, I worked all day at the hospital, came home and greeted my family, then decided to go out for a quick ski. I didn’t have much time before dark and ended up skiing on a trail that wasn’t in great shape, so it was slow going. I ended up skiing much less and at a much slower pace than I wanted. I used to get so discouraged when this sort of thing happened, but I’ve learned to just accept what I got done. It’s better than nothing! I still got a workout in, right? So next time you’re wishing you had more time or are down on yourself about not getting enough done, just remember- a little is better than nothing. Go ahead and congratualte yourself on what you DID get done! (Oh, and check out how beautiful the trails were today)!
